Do you love local food and farms? Want to get to know your farmer better — and get a behind-the-scenes look into Vermont’s vibrant working agricultural landscape?
During 2023 Vermont Open Farm Week, venture out to meet the farmers, plants, and animals that bring high-quality Vermont products to your plate. The greatest part about Open Farm Week is that every farm is unique – events are happening all across the state – it’s a great time to get out and explore!At Merck Forest & Farmland Center, you can participate in on-farm events, pick your own blueberries, and/or purchase delicious Merck-Made products. Pasture raised chicken, lamb and pork are all fresh, frozen and ready to go in the Visitor Center. Our organic, bird friendly maple syrup is fantastic!Join Farm Manager Hadley Stock Monday 8/7 – Thursday. 8/10 for morning chores and wellness checks with the animals from 9am – 10am and/or for a Pasture Walk to learn how Hadley measures for grass density, checks on grazing inventory and conducts species IDs from 10:30-11:30. These events are free, no sign-up required.Meet a local food producer, A Crooked Barn Charcuterie, on Thursday, August 10 from 11am – 1pm. Grab lunch on the Saphouse deck – options include his amazing all-beef hotdogs and Lamb Merguez sausages. Maple lemonade will also be available.Later on 8/10 at 3pm, join a member of MFFC’s Education team for Meet and Feed and learn how MFFC cares for its farm animals. Limited to 12 people.
