Migration and You

Oct 22 2024 - Oct 22 2024 • Time: 5:30 - 7:00PM

Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) welcomes Brett Stokes, Director of the Center for Justice Reform Clinic (CJRC) at Vermont Law and Graduate School, to talk about the complexities of immigration law and the nuanced distinction between “immigration” and “migration.” Professor Stokes will provide an overview of U.S. immigration laws, highlighting different paths to gaining lawful status in the United States and applying for critical humanitarian relief. He will facilitate a discussion on the implications of current (and perceived) immigration issues and the vital role that local communities can play in assisting noncitizen communities. This session will not only illuminate the pressing legal and political tensions surrounding migration but also encourage participants to consider ways to engage compassionately and effectively with those in need. Registration is $22 per person.
