China Shock: The Belt and Road Initiative
Tuesday September 8 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm via Zoom
Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) welcomes Derek Boothby to talk about China’s Belt and Road Initiative. If someone had told you, twenty years ago, that by 2020 China would be, by one measure, the world’s largest economy and in some spheres challenging the technological superiority of the United States, you might have thought they were crazy. But it doesn’t stop there. It has been reported that China has a plan to replace the United States as the global superpower by 2049. Among other breathtaking developments, with its Belt and Road Initiative, China is seeking to restructure the world economy and energetically expand its global influence. This talk will explore the breadth and depth of this massive project, and what it might mean for the American future. Registration for the talk is $15 per person in advance.
