China Shock: Upsetting the World’s Trading System
Tuesday September 1 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm via Zoom
Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) welcomes economist Peter Radford to talk about China’s increasingly dominant role in global trade. It was only in 1888 that the United States overtook China as having the world’s largest economy. Since then the two nations have followed dramatically different courses. One going through dramatic growth and ultimately dominating world trade and world politics. The other stagnating, going through prolonged civil war, and emerging as a much diminished “developing” nation. Now things are changing. China is on course to re-take its dominant role. By some measures it has already overtaken the U.S. How the world and the U.S adjusts to this new reality, and the issues Chinese dominance introduces, is the subject of this talk. Registration for the talk is $15 per person in advance. For more information or to register, please call 802-867-0111 or visit our website at greenmtnacademy.org.
