Some of the area's most interesting attractions are just a bit under the radar. Things like artisan cheese makers, custom lampshades, specialty fibers, bat caves, and Dorset's local swimming-hole (formerly a marble quarry). Ask your innkeeper for tips on what to see. Remember, Vermont isn't just cows and maple syrup. There are countless things to see and do that will make your visit to Dorset memorable. Below are links to a few suggestions.

Day Trip #4: Art Museums Day

Begin at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, on the Manchester West Road, about six miles south of Dorset. SVAC has a permanent collection specializing in Vermont artists, it hosts local artists, and it organizes exhibits throughout the year.

Next stop is the Sterling and Francine Clark Institute, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, about 55 minutes south of Dorset. With its outstanding collection of Impressionist art and a wide variety of paintings and sculpture from the Renaissance onwards, the Clark is a wonderful treat in the northern Berkshires.

Just five miles east of Williamstown is North Adams, Massachusetts. That's where you'll find the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MassMoCA). Occupying most of a large 19th and 20th Century industrial complex, MassMoCA offers vast galleries and spaces for the creation and display of all types of contemporary art. Check their website for current exhibits and other activities.
